france's david moncoutié of team cofidis pulled the early break and stayed away before the main contenders caught him. a bit of a shake up in the pack and it is now clear that contador, leiphiemer, valverde and sastre are the only guys that can really win this tour. levi jumps back into the leaders jersey but not by much.on the tipping front, no-one picked moncoutie (obviously) and the seconds gained/lost by the leaders made a difference. damnchickens managed to stay in front on both gc and sprint points, but only by a slim margin. team escalon jumped ahead in the mountians points.
