i think everyone was surprised that it came down to a sprint finish, including the sprinters. it was the type of stage that looks on paper as a perfect breakaway stage and a group certainly did try. however, there are still enough teams out there that are still going for stage glory and they sacrificed themselves to pull it back.so cavendish gets his second stage win and kirchen stays in yellow. a good day all round for team columbia.
as far as the comp goes, team baumbaum showed enough faith in the sprinters to tip the mighty thor and as such has jumped to first on gc and is now pushing the top of the green jersey comp as well.
